With these new series, we get remakes and sequels to previous shows among these new series. From animes such as Sailor Moon Crystal, the reboot of Sailor Moon, that ties closer to the original manga, to the sequel of Boy Meets World, Girl Meets World on television, to even Fuller House, a Netflix original that is a sequel to Full House. Although Boy Meets World was a great success and had seven seasons, its counterpart Girls Meet World did not receive as much praise ending after three seasons. A question arises, should sequels and remakes of show be closer to their ancestors, or should they have new ideas, with a mixture of the old idea.

Forbes state that the show had 5.6 million viewers during its premiere but dropped to 1.5 million viewers on average soon after (Katz). Those who agree that shows should stick to their original script will claim that this drop in viewers is partly contributed for any drastic changes made to the sequel or reboot. Since these shows are nostalgic to viewers, to gain a majority of older viewers is to stick with the original ideas. As humans, we tend to be afraid of the unknown, although of course there are those who are not. Those who are though, will stick to what they know, not with the new. This is why individuals believe that sequels and reboots to be close to their ancestors. Advocates also argue that sequels and reboots are never as good as their previous series. Ask anyone about sequels and most will say that “sequels are never better than the first.” They testify this to how sequels and reboots constantly are different from the originals.
