Use visual rather than verbal instruction by showing Sammy a picture of her doing the task. Then use nonverbal gestures to the task. Sammy will be taught antecedents by modeling the behavior. Then pictures will be taken of her doing desired tasks. If she sees a picture of her doing the task, then she will be more likely to engage in the task. When Sammy does the replacement behavior, she will be given a card with a scissor on it, every card stands for 5 min of scissor time. This reinforcement is a preferred activity of Sammy. When the behavior was modeled to her, she was given one-on-one attention by the teacher and is more likely to engage in the task.

This activity sounds like an escape-task reinforcement strategy. At the beginning of the intervention Sammy is given 5 mins of scissor time and a timer. The timer is important because when the time is up, the cleanup song is sung and Sammy response positively to it, by immediately cleaning up. The time on the timer will gradually be reduced, but will not be reduced past 2 minutes.
Reinforce New Skill: To be effective in learning the new skill, it must be demonstrated in different settings. To reinforce the use of newly learned skills by having teachers practice using the picture of Sammy preforming the behavior. We will inform the art, music, and other specialist teachers and have them reinforce Sammy when she does assigned task. The reinforcement schedule will be set up so it includes all different subjects, such as morning meeting, prep-teacher and specialist.
