My mom’s grandfather was straight off the boat from Ireland and her grandmother was straight off the boat from Deutschland. With that being said, I am Irish and Dutch on my mother’s side. Growing up, my mom’s grandfather worked in the coalmines up in Ashland. It was a very dangerous job, but someone had to do it. Her grandmother was a stay at home mother that watched over the children. Now these great grandparents that I’m talking about were my grandmother’s parents on my mom’s side. I have never met my great grandparents on my father’s side so I’m not exactly sure where they came from. All I know is that I am Dutch, Irish, French and German. So their ancestors would have to come somewhere from those area’s of the world. My father’s parents were similar to my mom’s parents because his mother stayed home to take care of the children and hid father worked all

The members of the family are self defined" (p. 5). The movie, Steel Magnolias, is based on a true story but names, details and events have been changed.…

People tend to believe that their problem or issue is something isolated from the rest of their lifer rather than an interconnected and interwoven web of relationships that affect everything in their life. Therefore, the theory of Family Systems assists caregivers in helping clients see themselves, “not as an autonomous psychological entity, but rather see each individual strongly influenced by the familiar relationships and systems in which they have to live.” Furthermore, as Bob Bertolino and Bill O’Hanlon point out, “Problems do not exist in a vacuum. They exist only in a context—a linguistic, social, cultural context. This means, there are patterns of behavior that have been developed within a client’s life that they do not even see or…

A genogram is a visual representation of family connections. Symbols used within the genogram can illustrate various social and emotional relationships between family members. In psychiatric-mental health nursing, genograms are helpful tools for exploring specific patterns within a family that span generations (Kneisl & Trigoboff, 2013, p. 652). For example, a client with alcoholism can generate a genogram to visualize patterns of alcoholism within his or her family (Kneisl & Trigoboff, 2013, p. 652). My genogram goes back three generations and highlights the psychological abuse passed down from my grandmother to my father and from my father to his children.…
