Intervention In The Classroom

Intervention Reflection Three This intervention went a lot smoother than I expected. The students were wild today so the classroom was very noisy, but we made it work. I would have moved my students out of the classroom, but due to lack of time I decided it was best to keep them where they were. After taking the word sort test in Dr. Bowens class, I felt so much more confident conducting my word sort activity. It finally clicked and went well. The students enjoyed it and I enjoyed it. The book is also very interesting so they are always excited to learn more about Bruce Lee. The only thing I would have done differently is move my students to a quieter area.
Overall, the students are doing very well. They are answering the comprehension questions and thinking deeper and deeper each time. They ask each other for help and always get along which makes the

I am trying to come up with ideas on how to make the intervention better. I want to make it more engaging and enjoyable because I take away from their study hall time. Honestly, I think I would be better off working alone than with my co-teacher. A lot of the times he does not have lesson plans for Wednesday and makes them up off of the top of his head. This confuses my students and we usually have to go back and summarize the previous chapter. I am doing my part and that is all I can do. Next time I will do popcorn reading. I know it was said not to do that, but they really were comprehending when I tried to do this. Previously, I was using choral reading and towards the end two of my students could not keep up. This worked at first, but now my students are kind of over it. Another thing I want to improve on is working efficiently. Due to my time limit I do not have that much time and I need to cut back on side conversations that my students have, although I enjoy listening to them sometimes because I get to know them better. I will only get better with

For this small group lesson, there were six students from a variety of learning levels. Students were familiar with the Magic School Bus series of books and television shows so they had a very good idea of what would be happening in the book I used. I read an article called “Group Cognitive Behavior Therapy Program with Troubled Adolescents” written by Sarah Edelman. In this article, counselors in Sydney, Australia designed a cognitive behavior therapy program. This program was designed to assist troubled teens in school since they have not responded well to the regular classroom. The teens in this group have suffered from psychological issues such as anxiety and depression while others lacked motivation and had learning disabilities. These issues have caused them to perform poorly in school and the therapy program had a goal which was to reduce the anxiety and depression of students, that way they would feel more relaxed and motivated to do well in school.…

Next, I was at the first-grade door waiting for Mrs. Hengesbach's class to return from specials. When they arrived, I received a wonderful warm welcome for the whole class who was expecting my arrival. I took a seat in the back of the classroom and the students gathered on a carpet in the front of the room. Mrs. Hengesbach read and sang a story, the topic became clear soon, they were studying poetry. The students were told to go back to their seats to write whether the book was poetry like the day before, or it was not and explain why.…

I felt like the students were able to analyze my essential questions really well, because they were able to make predictions before they heard the story, they were able to witness wacky things happening throughout the story, and then they were able to reexamine if their predictions were right or not. Using the main idea reading pocket chart was a great tool to use, because then they were able to see what some of them thought the main ideas were from the stories and other students to be able to partake in what they thought the supporting details were. I felt like it was a good week of when I did my lesson, because not only was it, Dr. Seuss week, but it fell on a Wednesday for me to do my lesson and the book, I read the children was Wacky Wednesday and they…

The Direct Instruction Approach video shows instruction in action inside the classroom setting to teach words and is fast paced and fluid. The students verbally respond collectively and are individually checked occasionally by the teacher to demonstrate their knowledge. The teacher quickly corrects any mistakes and moves on with the corrections. This repetition is attributed to the success of the approach by a teacher. The video depicts a word being read at prompt of teacher, spelled out, and read again while the teacher taps out with each letter.…

My pedagogy classes thus have provided several different learning experiences. My most recent learning experience was a close reading assignment that was to be completed in field. However, before I completed this assignment in my field placement, I engaged in one myself in my pedagogy classroom. It was at this point that I was able to see first-hand what a close reading actually is. The purpose of a close reading is to allow the student to “develop a deep understanding of what the author is saying and for students to figure out what is confusing and how to gain understanding (Mercado, 2015, ppt 8).”…

The directions and objectives for my lesson were simple and were clearly explained to the students. The students are already familiar with this style of instruction, because my mentor teacher uses it quite often. The students were instructed to locate and record their answer to the guided reading question in the packet I provided them with. The materials the students needed were the packet, their textbook, and a writing utensil. My mentor teacher does not make study guides for the students but instead does section reviews on the main ideas.…

For my Video Analysis I chose to video a lesson that I predicted the students might run into some trouble with. This is a very creative and summative project, which the students have not seen yet this year. This project is what Barell states as a summative experience because I was “assessing the students’ understandings, and reflections” through asking them to write their own sentences on the varies topics of the Northeast (Barell 59). Throughout the video they get louder when they get lost but I let some of them participate in a productive struggle.…
