Intertwining Categories: What Makes One Differ From One Another?

What is it that makes every person differ from one another? Is it their upbringing and experiences or is the person they are going to become predetermined? To me the words belief, certainty, knowledge, and doubt are the four essential intertwining categories in everyone’s life that differ enough to make each individual different from one another. These categories are all important by themselves but it is the connection between each of them that is so incredibly important. For instance, if you look at knowledge you find that no knowledge comes without doubt or uncertainty; the same goes for doubt and how if you are doubtful it is usually because you have prior knowledge …show more content…
I personally think that belief is something simple and that everyone should believe in something whether that belief is in a religious or a nonreligious sense. This is why I enjoyed reading and discussing the argument of Blaise Pascal, and how he approaches believing or rather having faith. I thought the reading was so good because Pascal takes such a simple approach to having faith; however, I would take a slightly different approach to his argument. I would say that having faith or believing doesn’t need to be in a religious sense, but rather you should put your belief or faith in something that inspires you and drives you to be a better person. I have come to the conclusion that people are scared of the word belief because they think that in order to believe your belief has to be in a religious sense. Also, I think that people don’t have a belief or believe in something is because they are doubtful that there really is anything worth believing

Humans are fundamentally different than any other existing organism, not only because of the obvious diversity in physical form, but also because of the uniqueness humans have from each other. Our important features are our foundation as who we are as individuals, and the assortment of personalities set us apart from one another. As Neil Gaiman, author of the novel Anansi Boys, inspires us by writing, “Each person who ever was or is or will be has a song. It isn't a song that anybody else wrote. Identity is like a deciduous tree that goes through all the seasons; it is ever changing. As individuals, we grow and we tend to adapt depending on the circumstances, along with the environment that surrounds us. But, like trees, we also manage to wither, especially when occasional obstacles come our way. We are infinitely being shaped and molded as individuals, as we stroll through the road of life. In Amy Tan 's essay, "Mother Tongue" and Zora Neale Hurston 's piece, "How It Feels to Be Colored Me" the authors explores the concept of identity and how their own identities are formed by the embrace of their personal life experiences.…

The issue of religion and faith has accompanied human civilization throughout the entire history of development. Numerous philosophers and scientists have tried to investigate the complex nature of human beliefs and provide the logical and justified reasons for creating gods and believing in them. Still, there is no universal theory, which could have explained the importance or uselessness of religion as a social phenomenon. In the book “Why would anyone Believe in God”, Justin L. Barret provides a detailed analysis of the problem of faith, considering diverse opinions and discovering various theories and ideas of religion.…

It is often confused what faith is and what it is not. Indeed it is an abstract term which its definition will change depending on who you ask. Throughout the works of two authors, Faith by Terrence W. Tilley and The Essential Tillich by Paul Tillich, the term faith gets evaluated and explained in a more in depth fashion. Everyone has faith; it does not have to be a religious belief, but in fact it can be a relationship with something, a center of value, or a motive. Faith, to me, is an abstruse concept where the components of belief, hope and morality unite to form a synonymous definition.…

The question of relationship between belief and evidence is important to the development of society today. The concern is what exactly we are to believe when there is no evidence available William James was a leading American psychologist and philosopher in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
