Interscholastic Sports Research Paper

I believe that interscholastic athletic programs are an extension of the classroom. Although academics come first in the secondary school system, the lessons that can be taught and learned from athletics cannot be duplicated anywhere else in the school environment. Sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance are just a few of the multitude of life lessons that can be learned through involvement in high school athletics.

My expectations for our programs are lofty, not necessarily in term of wins and losses but in terms of building programs, being passionate about our sports and in doing things the right way, all the time. The wins and losses will take care of themselves. It is the combined responsibility of the school, the athletic director, the coaches, the parents and the community to provide the finest possible environment for athletic competition. I believe that we have some great advantages at Glenbrook North; I fully expect to capitalize on those advantages. Students

The freshmen level is for the development of skills, it gives the athletes an opportunity to compete, have fun and build a love and passion for the sport. Coaches should stress the concepts of work ethic and basic fundamentals, allowing each athlete to experience quality playing time.

The Junior Varsity teams are a training ground for athletes. They should be expected to prepare for and understand the importance of varsity competition. Coaches should begin to train and play their athletes in a more competitive environment and expectations of commitment should be increased.

The Varsity is about striving for team cohesiveness and unification through individual excellence. This is an opportunity for athletes to showcase their talents. We realize that we may not always win but we shouldn’t be embarrassed to say we want to win, we should be proud of winning. The ultimate goal is to strive for a State
