According too the website http://www.psychforums.com/living-with-mental-illness/topic51798.html it states “ if your writing, watching something, paying attention to something, or focusing on anything, then it throws you off like a sudden needle or pin prick, because it causes an abrupt and sudden halt of your thoughts, blocking their flow, like a TOTAL INTRUSION and attack. It's like your mind is hyperfocusing on something and can't tolerate being blocked or disturbed.….Once you get interrupted, you feel like your thought flow has been blocked. It feels like a chain or link is broken, and it's hard to pick up where you left off. In his article “In Defense of Distraction”, Sam Anderson does not recommend abandoning our culture of distraction. He has a unique way of viewing the battle between concentration and focus: “Focus is a paradox—it has distraction built into it. The two are symbiotic; they’re the systole and diastole of consciousness.” Distraction is not an epidemic or a fatal flaw, nor is it something to immediately accept and embrace. Focus and distraction balance each other out, and you cannot have one without the other.…

For me, it was a bump in the process that caused my thoughts to loop around aimlessly, repeating one part over and over again like a broken record. These little repetitions are commonly called compulsions or obsessions. They dominated my childhood, until some unwanted prodding from my mother helped me break free. The breaking point came in second grade. I vividly…

Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken falls into a greatly interesting biographical category, bellying a compelling and immersive narrative of endurance when facing adversity, supported from associated historical sources. This all helps to create a sort of patchwork, contributing uniquely to going through the different sections, or “acts,” to Louis Zamperini’s life; from childhood days of delinquency, which would become channeled into an exceptional running career, spurned quickly by the call to World War II as a pilot, bringing about his captivity and torture at the hands of the Japanese. This encompasses the bulk of the story, with due emphasis given to the fallout of after the war ends, but the reasons for this being so effective is that Hillenbrand…

Not only did all of the interruptions occur, but I had the math tutor in my classroom pulling students to work with and a new push in began that morning. This push in is much larger than the group that comes in during the Science/Social Studies time. I am certain that my classroom was filled to capacity during the short time frame I was observed. Even with all of this happening in the classroom my students behaved perfectly since they have been taught how to respond when there are interruptions during our lessons. The students were on task and participated like they always do.…

As society becomes more technologically advanced, the evolution of texting becomes more routine in the daily life of any middle-class individual. With all the texts that are being sent around, one must wonder whether or not this form of communication is damaging the English language. An intrigued linguist known as John McWhorter set out to uncover the truth about texting, and it turns out he believes that texting is not harming the English language, but is modifying it. He believes that within the two forms of communicating, them being writing and speaking, one is used for more formal and sophisticated language while the other is just everyday chatter. McWhorter believes that texting is a combination of these two forms, where modern writing uses intricate vocabulary and juxtaposing rhetorical devices whereas texting is just the written form of everyday speech.…

People are from all over the world and knowing this, we have to be aware of the cultural differences that each person has. Dr. Rose Ihedigbo’s “Sandals in the Snow” and Amparo B. Ojeda’s “Growing Up American: Doing the Right Thing” are both stories on how different cultures are overlooked. Both the Ihedigbo family and Ojeda talked about their cultural differences between where they were from and America. A main similarity that both stories focused on was respect, especially for their parents, elders, and adults.…

Personally, have been thinking of different situations that I have interrupted an individual who was speaking about a situation. I thought of several, one that came to mind was a friend had to go in for emergency surgery, she came to me to voice her concerns because of my medical experience as well I just went through two major surgeries. While she was speaking and telling her concerns, I jump in to answer one when I should have waited. According to Petersen (2007), “Recognizing our tendency to interrupt, change the subject, give opinions, make suggestions, or argue, give us a chance to keep ourselves from leaning into someone else’s sentence (p.54).…

Johnny exhibits inappropriate behaviors such as biting students and pinching the teacher as a method for seeking attention. He also disrupts the successful learning of peers by yelling out and laughing during one-to-one instruction. A behavioral intervention plan and supports must be implemented to design replacement behaviors and reinforce acceptable alternatives. One type of observation that used for measuring observable behaviors is event recording. Aggression, such as biting and pinching are readily observable and discrete (Volpe, McConaughy, & Hintze, 2009).…

“I’m sorry.” Two simple words that can be articulated to mean a number of different things. Two words that, unfortunately, we have been exposed to our entire lives. Two words that are perceived as a good thing, yet in all reality symbolize the acknowledgment of unacceptable acts. When these two words are strung together to create a sentence that will invariably be answered with a quick “It’s okay”, it is easy to assess what has just happened.…

The noises take the attention of the students, especially in oral skills class where the focus is on listening and speaking skills. Every time I start a class, I write the tasks which we will take on the board. I tried to tell the students what the plan is and how to do it, which is more helpful for me and for them.…

This school year I enjoyed this English class because it was not very difficult, but it was not easy at all. This year we did so many assignments and some of them were analyzing poems, emulating poems, writing a theme of a poem, presenting a speech in class and then working as a group to create a chapter. I believe that I have grown throughout this school year. I have grown as a listener because back then I was not used to listening to poems without having a paper right in front of me.…
