The movie, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, directed by Stanley Kramer, is about an interracial marriage. The story revolves around Dr. John Prentice and Joanna Drayton, a young lady in her early twenties. They fell in love with each other when they were at Hawaii and decided to get marry after ten days. Joanna flies back to San Francisco and brings Dr. Prentice to her house to surprise her parents. Joanna asks her parents for permission to marry Dr. Prentice and decides on the day before Dr. Prentice flies to Europe later in the evening. When Dr. Prentice was on the phone with his parents, Joanna invited them to her house for dinner to discuss the marriage. Drayton objecting Dr. Prentice marriage with Joanna. According to the article, North Korea was testing the nuclear weapons while Trump was vacationing in Florida with his family on the weekend. Another way to look at it, North Korea was testing the missiles to proof to the western nation that they also have enough power to control the world. However, they also feel threatened by the U.S. that they will overreact and get involved with North Korea. Without a warning from the United Nation and the U.S, North Korea still want to develop nuclear weapon to show that it is not a weak nation compared to others. In Guess Who’s Coming to dinner, North Korea is like Dr. Prentice. In a way, North Korea cares about what others think since they are doing what they can to show others. In the movie, Dr. Prentice does his best to gain trust from the Draytons and will not marry Joanna if Mr. Drayton does not approve. On the other hand, the U.S is like the two fathers, who strongly opposes the marriage. The U.S. is very much against the nuclear weapon developments. Mr. Drayton see the marriage as a bad thing since he does not know the outcome of it, like how the U.S. are watching North Korea. Besides that, Mr. Drayton also worries that he will make the wrong decision. China and Taiwan has always been conflicted with each other since the past. However, the relationship between China and Taiwan is getting better. Still, China believes Taiwan is a part of the Chinese territory. China is a top nation compared to Taiwan, so they have the power to take advantage of the Taiwanese. China will be declared war on Taiwan any moment if they insist on full independence. Taiwan wants to be respected by China, but no one care how Taiwan feels and other nations do not want to infuriate China. Like the movie, Mr. Drayton and Mr. Prentice are against the marriage and disagree with their children's point of views. Mr. Drayton, a rich and influential man, is like China, and Mr. Prentice is like Taiwan. Mr. Drayton can disapprove the marriage even if the Prentices are completely fine with it. Mr. Drayton has the absolute authority just like how China is controlling Taiwan. At first Mr. Drayton opposes the marriage, but he changes his mind later on.
