Everyone has specific traits that they look for in a spouse or mate. One’s preference for an ideal mate can be influenced by cultural, evolutionary, and social ideas but also physical characteristics and personality. Individuals of the same race are more likely to marry each other than marry individuals outside their race. In a survey conducted it stated that younger Americans are much open to interracial dating whereas older Americans are not as tolerant to the idea. The reasoning behind this is that in the society and culture of older generations, marriage between different races was rare, often looked down upon, and even illegal in multiple states. As a result, older generations are less likely to approve and tolerate interracial marriages
