What kind of sensitive/personal information might be available to you when working in student placement settings?
Sensitive information is defined as information that is protected against unwarranted disclosure. Access to sensitive information should be safeguarded. Protection of sensitive information may be required for legal or ethical reasons, for issues pertaining to personal privacy or for proprietary considerations. 1. Sensitive information which may be available to me include personal details such as, date of birth, home address, telephone numbers, medical history and developmental records. Introduction
Interprofessional education refers to occasions when students from two or more professions in health and social care learn together during all or part of their professional training, with the object of cultivating collaborative practice providing client – or – patient – centred health care. Interdisciplinary learning involves interactive learning focused on active collaboration. 4.
The event
Initially a Speech and Language Therapist, two Social Workers and two Audiologists were placed together in a group. Time was allocated for introductions, then they listened to a speech from each Health and Life Sciences lecturer. They gave a brief outline of their profession and ran through the key elements of their course.
Interactive Tasks
After viewing the Speech and Language Therapy power point each group were asked to brainstorm the different types of communication. Social Workers and SLT’s took a holistic approach, whereas the Audiologist took a medical approach and suggested communicative aids to help resolve deficiencies.
