Interpreting The Magi

"The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry is a great story which talks about sacrifices for your loved ones and one of the best cases of irony there is. It is one of those classic "Christmas stories" couples read during the holidays, and it might even make you think more carefully just what "love" means. You should read the wondrous story, because it demonstrates the true meaning of Christmas in three words: love, sacrifice, and gratefulness. One reason you should interpret the story is because of the undying affection the main characters have for each other. In the beginning of the story, Della and Jim, a young couple struggling to earn money to ante up their bills. Poverty is something we are seeing in our world today. I liked the way O. Henry puts that in Della and Jim's story. It is something we can relate to in our life's. With Christmas coming up both husband and wife come up with a plan to buy each other gifts. Each possesses an item they deeply value not knowing the sacrifices they will make for one another. We all have to buy Christmas gifts for our loved ones and the fact that O. I loved how the plot progressed. Della and Jim are both strong characters who are willing to sacrifice something meaningful to them; working hard prior to Christmas in order to buy a secret gift for each other and make the other happy. This is something we don't see today. If you need money, you can take a loan and pay it off with interest, but in the story they both sold something in order to get money. You can learn a valuable lesson on love and gratitude and have a fun read as well. This story has taught me that sometimes you must give up something in order to gain something in return. The irony in this story is just jaw-dropping. Who would have known it would end the way Henry ended
