For this situation there is not a lot you can do differently if personal outside forces have a critical impact.
In the final cycle of work, at first I could not understand the feedback I received. Finally, I came to understand that my topic was too broad and needed to be condensed. I also learned that I need to ask for more help from my advisor when I need it instead of making her wait. Next time I would choose a more focused topic from the start.
The dissertation is not the only piece of work I accomplished on this year-long journey. At the start of the program I was afraid of not making friends, but that soon changed after a few days in the program. Which made me feel confident and allowed me to open up more in class because I felt I could trust those around me. In MMB007, we had to choose groups to work with a company all year. When we created that group we did so by looking at what those around us could contribute to the experience, not only what they were good at accomplishing, but what we already knew about them from working with some of these people from the week before. We had established early on that no leader was the best way to work on this project, and it worked the first semester but the second semester we had specific objective, and more people joined the group. I came up with the idea of dividing the work up among the five people in the group and the new members. My two areas of the project were to be the first to accomplish in the timeframe we had. I set up meeting times, with those I was working with and we accomplished one of our task in a three day timeframe. The second task, took more effort in organizing and I really had to adapt. I was the only person from the group in contact with the owner Phil, so I had to coordinate with him, when we could come into the shop and do inventory along with coordinating with all the other members of the team assigned to this task. That proved difficult, and I ended up doing more work than any of the others, but I do not feel bad about that. I learned that in a team you need to help out your teammates when obstacles get in their way in order to get the job done. But not get taken advantage
