Interpretation Of A Single Story

Decent Essays
Since a single story is that one story that is constantly being passed down told by people with no actual knowledge of the topic. The danger of this is that it sometimes is not true and but someones perception or "myth" of how something goes or what happened during an event. When hearing this or doing this we can end up single minded only with one interpretation of how an event took place. By telling this "single story" we can even end up insulting someone with such lack of reality. In the video Adichie explains how he rroomates single story of how her culture lived, talked or even music genre shocked her her lack of knowledge of how Nigerians actually speak English and listened to the same music. This is an example of the effect a single story

I loved both the stories. I love the somewhat modern twist in the film version. The fact that he had the Grimm’s in the story in the beginning asking about the real story shows to me that what I read about the director not liking there version is true. It’s almost like he’s telling them this is what the story should be like, not your way. In a way I kind of agree with him by the fact that the step sisters are basically paralyzed in the end of Grimm’s story.…

My theme choice of The Story of an Hour is; we see death every single day whether it's from some type of news or social media and we don't think much of it, and we just say “oh well” and life goes on, but when someone close to us dies we panic or think it's the most horrifying thing. Isn’t it sort of funny how in the story Richards heard about the accident in the railroads but only cared for Mr. Mallards aren’t we supposed to care for everyone no matter what? I think my theme really applies to almost any story that has a death in it and i think it’s a true but sad theme.…

Literary Narrative The famous and brilliant opening line, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,” from Charles Dickens’ novel, A Tale of Two Cities, properly represents my love hate relationship with literacy. Throughout my life, I have either enjoyed or despised reading and writing; there was no in between for me. From loving to read as a child, to being able to write letters to my state representative, my literary experience has grown rapidly in the past 10 years. I account most of this success to my favorite teacher, Mrs. Brownlee.…

“The story of an hour” is a tale of love, death and acceptance. The kind of love people search for is seeing someone’s flaws and accepting them and not wanting to be with anybody else at the end of the day. Even though she had to take care of him a lot and couldn’t live her life for her, she loved Mr. Mallard dearly. When she heard the news of her beloved husband “She sat with her head thrown back upon the cushion of the chair, quite motionless, except when a sob came up into her throat and shook her, as a child who cried itself to sleep continues to sob in its dream.” Death happens to everyone, it’s the one thing in life that you can’t escape.…
