Te'O never had personal contact with his supposed girlfriend who introduced herself as Lennay Kekua online. There was never physical affection nor did they meet in person. They only had contact via telephone and internet. That's one of the many reasons why many people questioned whether or not it is really a hoax or did Te'O made it up to gain popularity? How is someone going to have a relationship for such a long time without having even met? He said that he never met her in person, but she was his girlfriend. When the news got around that Lennay had died of Leukemia after a car accident the same day as Te'Os grandmother died people started feeling sorry for his double loss. While others questioned him how was it possible for him to keep on playing after knowing that his girlfriend of three years and his grandmother had died? Te'Os answer was that he had promised his girlfriend before her death that he was going to continue playing. The death of Te'Os girlfriend and grandma was not what made this story a scandal. She presented her image online in specific ways to get attention after feeling rejected from her peers in school. This documentary also talks about a boy named Ryan who committed suicide because he was being bullied online. His parent were unaware of what was happening. Ryan online friends use to call him looser, gay and many other bad things. The rejection and humiliation pushed Ryan to commit suicide. This documentary shows how harmful identity management on social media could be. At the end of the documentary I saw how in all the cases the victims were teens. Identity management was depicted negatively in the documentary. As a mother, I have to admit that
