They only had contact via telephone and internet. That's one of the many reasons why many people questioned whether or not it is really a hoax or did Te'O made it up to gain popularity? How is someone going to have a relationship for such a long time without having even met? He said that he never met her in person, but she was his girlfriend. When the news got around that Lennay had died of Leukemia after a car accident the same day as Te'Os grandmother died people started feeling sorry for his double loss. While others questioned him how was it possible for him to keep on playing after knowing that his girlfriend of three years and his grandmother had died? Te'Os answer was that he had promised his girlfriend before her death that he was going to continue playing. The death of Te'Os girlfriend and grandma was not what made this story a scandal. At the age of fourteen, her desperation for friends and attention led her to recreate herself online as Autumn Edows, a gothic artist and model. She started posting sexy and provocative pictures in lingerie. Her parents’ didn’t know anything until the principal from her school called and told them about it. Jessica's father said that he noticed that she was spending too much time in her computer but never did he imagine what she was doing online. Jessica said that she loved the attention and the comments that she was getting as Autumn Edows. She presented herself as woman rather than a teen and as an exotic model rather than a high school student. She presented her image online in specific ways to get attention after feeling rejected from her peers in school. This documentary also talks about a boy named Ryan who committed suicide because he was being bullied online. His parent were unaware of what was happening. Ryan online friends use to call him looser, gay and many other bad things. The rejection and humiliation pushed Ryan to commit suicide. This documentary shows how harmful identity management on social media could be. At the end of the documentary I saw how in all the cases the victims were teens.
