Behavioral Health Reflection

In this segment of lectures in the course Introduction to the College of Health and Human Services, titled “Behavioral Health.” The topics of the four lectures included, “Substance Abuse and Recovery,” “Simulation Learning Center,” ”Community Safety and Violence Prevention,” and “ INSERT NAME WHEN AVAILABLE.” This segment, as the name implies, concentrated mostly on the mental and emotional side of health rather than the more often discussed physical aspects of health. While mental health is not typically the first thing that comes to mind to those who are asked to explain wellness, it is a very important part of having an overall healthy life. I personally am very interested in the mental side of health, and I have always found myself more drawn to occupations dealing with the emotional side of health rather than occupations specializing in physical health so I found this chapter to be very interesting. This presentation also gave me a greater respect for nursing and medical students as our class was told about how many hours nursing and medical students spend in the lab and the high pressure of not only the operation on the simulator, but also of the detail oriented debriefing which can be used to show a student’s faults as well as success in a procedure. I also learned the value of simulators for the purpose of education as it involves the student to demonstrate procedural techniques, decision making under stressful circumstances, and critical thinking. This practice as well as the practice with the volunteer actors will give the students confidence in real world scenarios that they will encounter in the medical
