PERCEPTION
I. Description of Class Activity and Exercise
The first activity was a perception exercise with a partner. I wasn’t supposed to talk with my partner and answer the questions based on my first impressions and perception of my partner and the same went for her. The questions ranged from the type of car my partner drove to political beliefs, musical choices and my partner’s GPA in high school. The second activity was the Perception Triad. Essentially, I had to go through the list of adjectives and select five that describe me the most and do the same for the other members of the group. Finally we had to explain why we choose those adjectives to describe our perceptions of each other.
II. Emotional Response
I predicted that I would get less rights than wrong for the first activity. I knew my partner fairly well, but I was hesitant to answer certain questions as some of them were specific, personal questions. I didn’t want to get some of the questions mistaken. However I went with my gut, factored in some of these things I knew about her, and my impressions of her. I was surprised that I got most of the questions right. The first activity was based on my insight of my partner and the inferences that I drew based on what I perceived of her character. Forming impressions of others is described as a subjective process you form of other people which include the characteristics of the person you are observing, the context of the situation, and your own personal traits. In relation to that, the second activity had us selecting five adjectives based on our perceptions of each other in context to our behavior, appearances and what we already knew of each
