During the interview with the Director of Field Services for the Love’s Corporation (Drew Graham, in-person interview with Vivian Brown, February 19, 2016), it was stated that Interpersonal communication is the most important communication skill to have throughout the company. With further research, it was found that interpersonal communication is one of the most used and sought after communication skills employers look for in potential employees. This is because out of all the communication skills, interpersonal was ranked 37% as the highest recommended attribute to have in the workplace. This can be achieved through the exchange of information, feelings expressed at an appropriate time and underlying meaning with the verbal and nonverbal realm. Careful consideration should be put forth when improving interpersonal communication because it is not the language used, but the way it is said accompanied with facial expressions, body language, and voice tone.

Written and verbal communication may have come in at a close second to Interpersonal communication, but they are no less important. Without effective writing skills, a person in the business world will quickly fall behind, regardless of their industry. It is an essential communication skill required to function in everyday life. The same can be said about verbal communication. Even people who are not able to speak can provide other means of verbal communication, such as body and sign language.
