Chapter one of our book outlines a few of the principles of interpersonal communication; One of these principles claims that interpersonal communication is irreversible (McCornack 16). Many times in my life I have seen this principle ring true, and wished that I could take back something I said. One example for instance came about within an argument between me and my father. Somehow we had gotten onto the subject of staying out too late and when I should be home. Although I insisted that I should be allowed to stay out as long as I’d like, given that I was 18 at the time, he did not see it that way. He knew that me coming home at such late hours would wake up the others trying to sleep, a very valid point if I had only taken the time to listen.

Impersonal communication refers to exchanges that have a negligible perceived impact on our thoughts, behaviors, feelings, and relationships. On the other hand, interpersonal communication refers to dynamic conversation between two, or potentially more people, in which the messages make an impact on thoughts, feelings, behavior, and relationships. A time where impersonal communication was an appropriate form of communication for me to use is when I talked to my friend Lucas. When I talk to my friend Lucas, we sometimes send memes back and forth and engage in silly dramatic dialogue. Our over-the-top reactions are done jokingly and to keep the conversation going until either of us have a topic that can transform the impersonal communication into interpersonal communication.…

Interpersonal communication is the process of sending and receiving information between two or more people. It is a person-to-person contact, it includes everyday exchange that may be formal or informal and can take place anywhere by means of words, sounds, facial expression, gestures and postures. Two significant learning points for me during this course was in module 3, using the I-language instead of you-language which gives power over our thoughts, feelings and emotions to others. To take responsibility for your own feelings, rely on I language rather than you language. I language owns thoughts and feelings and does not blame them on others (Wood 125).…

I had a training with the army, and that required me to absence from school for two weeks. Unlike my other class, I didn’t have a chance to work ahead of the class with the instructor for the two weeks that I would be missing. Therefore, I was worried that I wouldn’t catch up with my classmates and end up failing the class. However, Ms. Anna was generous and extended the assignment due date for me; she even gave me an extra-credit assignment to replace the credits that I missed during my two weeks in training.…
