Interoperability is defined as “the capability with which two or more programs can share and process information irrespective of their implementation language and platform” (Tan, Payton, & Tan, 2010, p. 148). The method in which healthcare information is exchanged comes in various forms, from the internet to telephone and no one way can transmit all information on a single operating system. The purpose of creating system operability allows various physicians, who operate on different systems, to exchange medical records with other physicians who are not on their system.
