Topic:
I will be researching internship programs and their impact on students’ educational and professional development and their effectiveness to assist students obtain successful job placement. I will examine the current job market and evaluate what employers are looking for in new hires. I will look at the advantages and disadvantages of participating in internship programs from both the employers’ and interns’ standpoints. I will also look at the statistics of recent graduates who participated in internship programs and their employment status, as well as compare pay scales of recent entry-level new hires with those who participated in internship programs and those who did not. The cost of higher education makes it so important for students to be “hire able material”. I will detail why internship programs are so valuable and why it is necessary for students to apply academic knowledge to real work settings. I will examine the academic benefits of early internship programs available to first year students. I will examine the reasons why many students do not participate in these programs and highlight the barriers or obstacle that prevent them from these programs. I will develop solutions to help drive more students to available internship …show more content…
At the college level, there must be practical exposure to learning so a student can make a stronger connection with academics, its purpose and results. I first started as an Education major and the impact of working with kids in the school made it easier to understand all the theories studied that previously were just words on paper. I understood the purpose when exposed to the situation. My studies began to make sense when I experienced it. This applies to all majors. It is the mission of High Point University “to prepare student to live lives of significance in complex global communities.” Students must be given the opportunities to be better prepared for the world outside the classroom. A college degree means nothing unless a student can apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. Our educational experience must include the ability to utilize what we have learned in the
