Narrative Essay
On February 19, 1942, just two months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. Its tone was carefully neutral: it authorized the War Department to designate “military areas” that excluded people considered to be a danger to the United States. But, the order actually had a specific target: 110,000 Japanese Americans living along the West Coast of the United States. Many families were affected including mine. My dad went to a different camp because of the job he had. He was a business person and one day the Americans suspected that he might be a Japanese spy. It took us a couple days to get there but we were able to have enough food and resources that we needed. When we arrived I thought the camp was going to fall apart because they hadn't finish it on time. But we were thankful that we still have at least a warm place to stay at. We were lucky that my family didn’t get separated and stayed at the same barracks.
We have been living here for a week now, there are many things that we're not use to because of our daily life. Mom has a trouble time getting use to this place, one of the major reason is that there are no privacy. That was one of the main things that she argued about, and the food that we're not use to. Like rice with sweet and savory dish and how the bathroom doesn't even have stalls. So we didn't feel comfortable about it in the beginning but as time past we let each other get their piracy and try to do the best we could with it.
