Internists I have chosen to research an internist for several reasons. One of the reasons I chose to do so is the fact the job includes the use of science. I have taken an interest in having a job in health care for the past year or so. This career could be a challenge, but what is more exciting than a challenge? After researching the career of an internist, I have decided to pursue it. Internists are required to do several tasks, daily. Often, they will examine patients to find the location of a health problem. Internists must be able to order lab tests and analyze data for their patient’s health. Psychology is a very important field to study due to the fact internists need to be prepared for all situations. To be an internist, they must have a vast knowledge of medicine. Another very important thing to study is law. Studying law is important so internists may avoid running into illegal issues with patients. Finally, having an understanding of biology is important. Biology deals the with life and how it works, so it is essential for a career in the medical field (“Knowledge” 1). I do enjoy learning new things, so I’m sure I would have no problem gaining this knowledge. Biology is one of my favorite things to learn about, and I’m sure my interest will increase as my knowledge does. In order to get a M.D. (Doctor of Medicine), he/she must first get their Bachelor 's degree. Usually an internist would need to major in biology, chemistry, or, if the school has it, pre-med for their Bachelor 's Degree. Once graduating from medical school, internists have several more tasks to complete. They will have to complete an internship, a state licensing exam, a residency program in internal medicine, and finally, complete additional exams to become board certified (“Preparation” 1). There is a lot of schooling that must be completed. Going to school will not bother me since I enjoy school. All the exams will be tough, but if I study the material, I should be
