There has been a rapidly expanding usage of the Internet, and usually it’s seen as beneficial. It has allowed us to communicate with others that are an ocean away, to absorb an infinite sea of information with just a mere tap of a finger, but what consequences do these advancements entail? It seems as though society has been entranced by the effortless, and quick rewards of the Internet to the point where there’s never really is a period of unwiring. This constant immersion into the digital world however, distances ourselves from reality, and infiltrates our personal lives. It creates this insatiable addiction for instant gratification, that if not taken more seriously, will only get exponentially worse.

In South Korea one of the country with the worst amount of Internet addiction their citizens drift further from reality and their lives as they absorb into the digital world. It has become so severe that the South Korean government put an Internet ban on those under 15 from midnight to 6:00 am. Some are going as far as to sending their loved ones in a “digital detox”, a program which would treat their internet addictions, and is starting to increase in popularity, opening in the United States, China, the Netherlands, and more. An author of Business Insider Melia Robinson covered the documentary of South Korea’s increasing gaming addiction where a teenage boy admits to spending 88 plus hours on Internet gaming. He later says “Apart from sleeping, taking showers, or eating, I live in front of the
