Technology Has Done More Harm Than Good For Today's Society

Many people have it engraved in their minds that technology has done more harm than good for today’s society. Although there may be plenty of evidence proving that opinion true there is also plenty of evidence proving the opposite. Technology should be embraced because of inventions such as the cellphone which allows friends, families, and emergency services to stay connected with people near or far. People may claim to be anti-social but it is scientifically proven that interaction is vital for mental health. Professor and Social Cognitive Neuroscience Lab Director Matthew Lieberman states “that our need to connect is as fundamental as our need for food and water.” Humans are incredibly social creatures and using technology can be used in …show more content…
This idea goes beyond friends and family and extends towards emergency call centers. Contacting an emergency call center allows help in any time of need. This includes 911 and insurance companies. The National Emergency Number Association took statistics that claimed “An estimated 240 million calls are made to 9-1-1 in the U.S. each year. In many areas, 70% or more are from wireless devices,” With this information it is safe to say the cellphone was used for the advantage of getting help and successfully receiving it. The cellphone features of text and call were used to say lives by people who embraced this technology. When people break down on the side of the road or get into car accidents they go straight for their cellphones and call their insurance companies. The cellphone was used in time of need and its ability to bring communication between two people was used for help. While growing up people make close friends who they have grown close to over the years. Not always are people going to stay in the same area as those friends. The cellphone allows those friends to keep in touch. Without the use of texting or calling you may never be contact again. There are many factors of life that move family members away from each other.
