Power Outage Case Study

In managing a network problems with the network are to be expected and planned for when and where possible. Many of these plans created to deal with problems cover what to do if a part of the system is attacked or compromised along with what to do in the event of a natural disaster. This does not mean everything is covered as some problems are deem unlikely or a minor enough event that it should not be a problem to deal with. One potential problem that can find itself label in such a way are power outages as this is a problem but not one likely to be viewed as overly serious as they do not happen often and when they do they tend to be brief. In most developed countries a power outage is often a short lived affair that will be resolved quickly meaning the before mentioned steps will handle the situation but what about a prolonged power outage? The best solution to a prolonged power outage is to have a backup location available in a geographically different location so that whatever is affecting the primary location does not affect the backup location but not all businesses are able to afford such things. Already uninterrupted power supplies and surge protectors have been proposed could they help again? The answer is yes and no as there are different things that can cause a prolonged outage so items like a surge protector can help protect against some issues even if it does not protect against all of them. On top of that uninterrupted power supplies are only meant to last for a few hours depending on the size of the supply and what it is powering so it is easily possible for the outage to outlast the backups. There are a few solutions since in this situation there is likely no backup location. The first solution is cheap in that when it is determined that a power outage will last for a prolonged period of time then the network will be shut down so as ensure all important data is saved and stored and all hardware is safely powered off so as to avoid any issues. Part of the reason they are not always handled well is power outages come in two main forms but sometimes only one type is prepared for but both have their issues that they can cause that can result in loss of data, loss of productivity, and even loss of hardware depending on the situation. Furthermore while solutions exist for all power outage issues them very in price and some like having generators require those planning out the system to be aware of everything that will need to be connected so as to avoid causing new problems that result in loss to the network. Along with this recent advances in photovoltaic cells is now allowing businesses to look into new options when meeting their power needs that allow all the aforementioned problems to be addresses while also giving other advantages thought currently at a high cost but one that is dropping allowing more businesses each year to expand into this option. Power outages will remain a problem for the time being and one that should not be ignored just to save money since it is now becoming possible to spend more on this issue and actually save more money in the long run than trying to save money up front but regardless of chose it is an issue that should be though on and appropriate action taken from the businesses point of
