In “Nosedive”, When Lacie is finally separated from her phone and she goes to jail, she notices the dust in the sky and the beauty of it. She has never noticed this due to the fact that her face rarely left the screen of her phone. This is the same for our generation of people. We are so caught up in our life on social media that we forget to look at the fine details and beauty of nature and life without technology. We can barely not bump into things while we walk because our faces are glued to our smart devices. We also have begun to be more self-conscious and care more about what people think about us on social media. Andrea K. McDaniels writes in her article “Research offers mixed messages on the impact of social media on adolescent emotional health” writes about how “Teenagers talk about the pressure to post the perfect photo or compete with the pristine lives their peers present on the Internet”. In other words, Andrea K. McDaniels is saying how young adolescent teen feel as if they have to act a certain way online so people can like them and I agree on this. Teenagers act a certain way around others just so they can be accepted and not lose a follower or alike on social media. If they have an opinion that is not accepted in the public eye, they either change it or do not say it at all because they fear they will be judged. This is shown in “Nosedive” when Lacie is shown cursing and calling the person in the cell next to her crude names. She lets out all this anger and opinions that she has been holding in for if she said these in public with her phone, she would get judged and would be given a low
