Advertising is a form of nonpersonal communication which produces information for the promoting the sale of products and/or services. Promotional advertisements can be through television, Internet, radio, magazines, newspapers, billboards, etc. The objectives of advertising are to create awareness, aid in comprehension, develop conviction and to encourage ordering (Peter & Donnelly, p. 147). Internet advertising is a form of direct marketing and delivers promotional marketing messages to consumers. It also helps in creating strong awareness by bringing the desired traffic and target customers to a website. The types of internet marketing include email, search engines, social media, blogs, banner advertising, and mobile data advertising. Since the majority of consumers that marketers want to reach are already online, internet advertising is a popular and effective way of marketing. Marketers can control who their advertising reaches, bring awareness to brands and measure the impact of advertisements. The advantages to internet marketing are that it is interactive, has a low cost of exposure, banner ads can be placed in places of interest, and it can provide high information content. The disadvantages are that it gets low attention, has a short message life, exposure is controlled by the reader, intrusive, and subject to readers’ download capability (Peter & Donnelly, p. 129).
