on a beautiful September Tuesday morning the first of two planes, American Airlines flight 11 took off from Boston, Massachusetts destine for Los Angeles, California, a Boeing 767 loaded with ninety two passengers which included the five hijackers and the flight crew of eleven as well as twenty thousand gallons of jet fuel barreled into the north tower of the World Trade Center located in New York City. The hit left a burning hole the size a commercial jet, in the building near the 80th floor of the one hundred and ten story skyscraper. This instantly killed hundreds of people and trapped hundreds more in the upper floors of the north tower. As emergency workers flooded the north tower to start evacuations, television stations began broadcasting live images of what initially appeared to be a horrible accident. Exactly eighteen minutes after the initial strike of the north tower, a second plane being United Airlines Flight 175 a Boeing 767 that initially took off from Boston, Massachusetts destine for Los Angeles California as well, was carrying sixty five which included fifty six passengers, five hijackers and the nine crew members, suddenly came roaring into view, then turned directly toward The World Trade Center and gashed into the south tower making impact around the 60th floor. During this time American Airlines Flight 77 began to circle over downtown Washington, D.C., which it then grounded itself into the west side of the Pentagon which housed the military headquarters at 9:45 a.m. the impact of flight 77 with its payload of Jet fuel caused a devastating inferno on impact that led to the partial structural collapse of a portion of the concrete building.
