Diversity is an important tenet in today’s globalized world; one faces diversity almost every day so it is important for people to have a wide understanding of what diversity is and how diversity can be beneficial to both society and individuals. An international student teaching internship would greatly enhance my knowledge of diversity allowing me to have more success as a future educator and a citizen.
Going on an international internship would expose me to the very definition of diversity; I will be placed in country I have never been to and I will experience customs that I’ve never experienced before. Putting me in England will force me to confront new situations and different outlooks on the world that will open my mind to many new ideas and concepts that I may never get to experience without the internship. These new experiences with diversity will allow me to open my mind more to the human experience in general, while also making it easier for me to understand the views of people all around the world, specifically those in Europe. I will grow in my understanding of European culture, allowing me to become a better social studies educator and a better citizen of the world. My understanding of diversity in education will also change as I am able to observe and work with teachers who have taught in schools around the world and students who have attended schools around the world. Such an opportunity is directly applicable to my future because career goal is to become an educator in DoDDs schools. Student teaching in England will give me an irreplaceable opportunity to see how teachers and students in overseas schools experience and work with diversity in their classrooms. I will be able to take this international internship and hopefully turn it into a successful and fruitful career as an educator of military
