The Soviet was first to space as it launched the first satellite (Sputnik) but the US were the first to send a man on the moon. International Relationships were still shaky and a nuclear war was very common at the time. The Soviets power is felt all over the world with East Germany to North Korea. Quebec wanting to separate from Canada was a big problem and it caused a lot of havoc even to the point where Pierre Elliot Trudeau had to enact the War Measure Act, the first time it happened without a war happening. Quebec felt that they were outsiders in Canada because of their French culture against the English Culture. There was even a terrorist group called Front de libération du Québec.
