International relationships was big in the 20th century than any other century due to technology. There has been two world wars, rises of new world powers, new enemies and problems caused by the 20th century to this date. International relationships in the 20th century have been like no other century. This century was the turning point for some nations. World War I was the biggest conflict known to mankind at the time, due to the conflicts of Austria-Hungary and Serbia. Known as the Great War it saw nine million people die in the course of four years. All of this tragedy happened because of modern weapons and new warfare strategies. After World War II, the Soviet Union and United States quickly embarked on war, the Cold War. The Cold War was started because of fear of Communism. The United States were scared that Communism would spread and the Cold War was started. Although the Cold War was never fought on US or Soviet soil it involved them in different wars. The Vietnam War and the Korean War were fought with the help of the Soviets and the Americans, both on different sides. The Cold War also went into space as the two rival nations tried to see who could beat each other to space. The Soviet was first to space as it launched the first satellite (Sputnik) but the US were the first to send a man on the moon. International Relationships were still shaky and a nuclear war was very common at the time. The Soviets power is felt all over the world with East Germany to North Korea. The Cold War was one of the biggest problems in the 20th century after World War II. The Cold War ended in 1990 with the collapse of the Soviet Union. International relations were also uneasy in Canada for a long time. Quebec wanting to separate from Canada was a big problem and it caused a lot of havoc even to the point where Pierre Elliot Trudeau had to enact the War Measure Act, the first time it happened without a war happening. Quebec felt that they were outsiders in Canada because of their French culture against the English Culture. There was even a terrorist group called Front de libération du Québec. They supported the Quebec sovereignty movement and was involved in over 200 bombings between 1963 and 1970 (Marc Laurendeau, Front de libération du Québec, The Canadianencyclopedia, http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/front-de-liberation-du-quebec/).
