Internal Stakeholders In The Sandusky Scandal

Decent Essays
With the events of the Sandusky scandal taking place primarily on the Penn State Campus, you have a variety of stakeholders affected both internal and external. The internal stakeholders in this case are the people on campus who were directly affected by the events that occurred (Crandall, Parnell & Spillan, 2013). The management team and the athletics department both had a stake in how this played out. It would also be their responsibility to review code of conduct policies for employees and to determine the best plan of action so this did not happen again. The athletic department was probably most affected out of all the

Lopez (1975) Justice Powell commented, “As it is difficult to think of any less consequential infringement than suspension of a junior high school student for a single day, it is equally difficult to perceive any principled limit to the new reach of procedural due process.” Schools and athletic administrators would be wise to consider this comment and recognize that it is a still-developing area of law, with consequences that are not always predictable. Therefore, it is prudent for them to develop rigorous policies and procedures to protect themselves and coaches, in the event that a property or liberty interest is…

Therefore, proper coaching philosophies need to be in place to prevent incidences of negligence such as in the Koffman v. Garnett case. In the Seamons v. Based on what Marcus Ball has written in the article titled, “Strange Business,” I can most definitely conclude that it seems like the football players are the ones who are forced to deal with the very strange business when they get in trouble, just like Ball, while the owners of the teams and other men in suits, like the Panthers owner, Jerry Richardson, don’t have to deal with any of that. This seems very strange as the players of the team are merely supposed to just play the game while the men in suits are supposed to deal while the business stuff. Much like what Ball thinks, I think that this is whole deal is not fair as the acts of Richardson were much worse than what Ball’s acts were and Ball still got the shorter end of the stick.…

Prior to the passage of a “Tim Tebow Bill” the governing organizations of high school sports, such as the VHSL and AHSAA, are designated as private institutions to protect from lawsuits. They are protected from lawsuits because “schools volunteered to abide by the association 's rules and governance procedures.” Passage of the Tebow bill would open these associations and state governments to more litigation. Don Jackson, a professor at Samford Law School, warned, “If the state moves forward with this action, then they could be a party in that suit. They could have liability, because the AHSAA is now viewed as a state entity.”…

Many court cases are beginning to arise due to former players realizing the NCAA unfair rules and guidelines, and it needs to be changed drastically. Two students on the Northwestern football team created a petition to be able to unionize and be compensated for their play, however, the National Labor Relation Board declined to give jurisdiction in the athletes’ case (Strauss) (this is another work from the same author). Although the board denied compensation for athletes, their reasoning was that college athletes are students first. They avoided the main point of the case which was William Goud, a former labor board chairman, thinks the student athletes have a good case by stating "The principle reason for that is their work -- they have…

Jack Abramoff was the top lobbyist in D.C. from 1994 to 2001 and was involved in arguably one of the largest scandals in American history. This scandal involved many other people and some main players were Michael Scanlon, Adam Kidan, Ralph Reed, Tom Delay, and Bob Ney. All of these people either received bribes, gave out bribes, or were involved in some other type of illegal activity. Abramoff’s scandal was based mainly around his lobbying work with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and their interests in owning casinos and gambling. His first job in 1995 was to eliminate the bill that was charging an unrelated sales tax to the Native Americans casinos.…
