Norms, which is a term that was previously address, are considered to form internal control. This controls the way people feel and behave internally. However; sanctions are considered to control more on an external forms. Sanctions can be a positive or negative outcome from an individual’s behavior. For example, if a person were to break the law, their sanction would be negative as they would more than likely be punished for it. On the other hand, if an individual work hard at his/her job, they will produce a positive sanction, like obtaining a raise or being promoted to a higher position.
