In the past, working for Family Dollar gave employees the opportunity to witness the manager at the store use the four functions of management in the daily routine. The four functions of management are planning, organizing, leading and controlling (Four Functions of Management: Planning, Organizing, Leading & Controlling, Study.com, Chapter 1 Lesson 4). Being an employee at Family Dollar has given them the ability to write about their experience witnessing the action. The internal and external factors that this employee is choosing to write about are Technology, Diversity and Ethics.

Overall, because of the four functions of management, my manager was able to be successful with technology.
Family Dollar carries a diversity of products, ranging from name brand to store brand and what the products purpose is. Organizing and planning go hand in hand when I think about these factors and the diversity of products. All the products have a place on the shelf and it is organized and planned by corporate in plan-o-gram. All the manager has to do is pull out these plan-o-grams and lead the team into putting the product where it belongs. Most of the time it is name brands next to store brands and products being grouped into what they are used for. As much as the manager was supposed to lead when it came to setting shelves to the plan-o-gram, most of the time they left the other employees to complete it. The plan-o-grams were easy to read and understand. If we didn’t receive a certain product that was in the plan-o-gram, we were able to control the situation by placing a store brand in its place. All in all, the manager had it easy when it came to the diversity of products because it was already planned out by corporate in the plan-o-grams. Ethics is defined as “a system of moral principles” (Dictionary, dictionary.com). When it came to applying ethics at Family Dollar, it seemed that the store just didn’t have them. Although the store
