Internal Conflicts In The Outsiders

The novel ‘The Outsiders’ written by S. E. Hinton is a novel written with many conflicts. ‘The Outsiders’ novel was first written and published in 1967. Throughout the novel, we are faced with family complications, involving the brothers. Who are Ponyboy, Darry and Johnny. We discover socio-economic statuses between the Greasers and the Socs, and we find out that Dally has an internal conflict of himself.

Throughout the chapters, we uncover family complications. A major reason why Darry fights and agues with Ponyboy is because as we know, Darry, Soda, Ponyboy and Johnny’s parents have both died. As Darry is the oldest out of the four brothers, he has to be the ‘parent’ to the others. He is usually under a lot of stress and because of this, he is mainly hard on Ponyboy. Darry can see a bright future for Ponyboy and doesn’t want Ponyboy to end up like him. Although Darry and Ponyboy have their disagreements,

Dally is a good person who makes bad choices and he was always the ‘tougher, colder and meaner’ one than the others. He was also the ‘wild’ one, Dally was a character who wanted to show that he was a bad person, when he was actually nice in the inside. Although there were laws, he liked to prove to everyone that ‘he didn’t care’. He did this because of his ‘reputation’, even though he had a huge reputation to keep up with, he was trying to figure out who he is and where he stands in the ‘gang’. Despite how he looks and acts, Dally is a human being and he had his ‘breaking point’ when Johnny passed away. When Dally was told this tragic news he was ‘broke’, he couldn’t handle knowing that Johnny died and is long gone. It was to a point when he robbed the convenience store and the police followed him. He pulled the trigger of the gun and the police were forced to shoot him. At that time, Ponyboy saw another one of his close ‘mates’ die right before his
