The most evident case of where there can be two ways of explaining something is Simon’s death. Basically, Simon is a loner that represents innocence in the book. When Simon finds the pig’s head that Jack and his tribe put there as an offering to the beast, the beast shows up. The beast, otherwise known as the Lord of the Flies, taunts Simon, telling him that he is nothing. Just like all the other boys. Simon somehow found himself looking inside the mouth of the beast he fell in. When Simon woke up, he was near the mountain. Jack and his tribe see the beast and, after they do their satanic dance, violently stab the beast. As the storm clears, Simon’s mangled body has washed up on the shore. This situation can be taken in two ways. The first way being Simon is talking to himself making this a man vs. self-conflict. For example, when the Lord of the Flies is taunting Simon he says something very peculiar. In the book it says, ““Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill!” said the head. For a moment or two the forest and all the other dimly appreciated places echoed with the parody of laughter. “You knew, didn’t you? I’m part of you? Close, close, close! For example, in Lord of the Flies, they had very simplistic technologies such as fire or the conch. There is one important technology that they boys would not of survived without. This product is Piggy’s glasses!Piggy is an overweight, short boy who is the smartest boy on the island. The boys always made fun of piggy’s physical disabilities like his glasses, but those glasses saved their lives. Piggy constantly cleans off his glasses which is allegory for his desire to keep the island civilized. They helped them make a fire, which helped them cook food, have heat and get them rescued. When the boys realize that Piggy’s glasses are the most important thing on the island, they shove piggy into the rocks, take his glasses and then repeatedly stab him with their spears. In the novel, Golding says “Far off along the bowstave of the beach, three figures trotted toward the castle rock […]. The chief led them, trotting steadily, exulting in his achievement. He was a chief now in truth; and he made stabbing motions with his spear. From his left hand dangled Piggy’s broken glasses”(Golding,302). Piggy’s glasses are the most important thing on the island. In order to get the glasses for himself, he had to kill Piggy. Technology can drive people to insane things. Think about how we are attach to our phones not enjoying life. It is because of technology
