The Internal conflict that is Poverty changes Esperanza throughout the start and end of the story called The House on Mango Street. However, this also shows her point of view of what she experienced during the book.
She first experience poverty, by the way people look at the house that her family bought when they moved into “ Mango Street “. Some of these examples include: “ You live there? The way she said it made me feel like nothing. There. I lived there. I nodded.“ ( Cisneros 5 ) The main purpose on why this quote was used, was because it shows Esperanza feeling either ashamed, or embarrassed of her own house because it was uncleaned, and wasn’t fit to be called itself a house. Furthermore, this changes Esperanza because she imagines that she will have a house that people could point at in a rather upright and kindful way than the ones pointing at her family’s house. …show more content…
However, the only thing that Esperanza’s family can afford are either broken or used items bought in the junk store. Evidence that are showed in the story are: “ There is a junk store. And old man owns it. We bought a used refrigerator from him once “ ( Cisneros 19 ) and “ Tables with feet upside - down and rows and rows of refrigerators with round corners and couches that spit dust in the air when you punch them and a hundred T.V’s that don’t work probably.” ( Cisneros 19 ) The purpose on why these sentences were quoted was a result of making the reader imagine what it feels like to be in Esperanza's shoes when they are poor and trying to surviving the outside world with short currency.
