Importance Of An Interstructional Program

Since I currently work as a paraprofessional in the Carl Junction R1 Alternative School, I chose to intern with the administrator of this program. As a result of a small number of staff working at the Carl Junction Unlimited, the administrator’s duties consist of a variety of tasks such as principal, school counselor, curriculum director, secretary, disciplinarian, and much more. However, for this particular internship, I tried to focus particularly on the aspects of her job that entails leadership of the instructional program. Working with this administrator of CJU for eleven years, I have had many opportunities to watch and learn how she addresses a variety of situations and how the program has had to adapt over the years. Our program is currently technologically behind our main campus; therefore, the principal has insisted upon the increased use of technology in the classrooms. She has provided several opportunities for the teachers to learn new information on ways to implement technology in the classroom as well as established criteria for the frequency it must be used. Some of the training has included learning how to incorporate Canvas into the instruction as well as new information about online activities and websites that would be beneficial to students and teachers. As a result, I have witnessed an increase in technology use in all classrooms by both the teachers and students. Furthermore, since one of our assignments for EAD 780 is to develop a technology plan, I have worked with her to discuss ways we can improve technology use in our new building next school year.
