I remember going to my brother’s high school graduation in 2008 with my mom and dad; it was a public school so there were a lot of students. I was so excited to see my brother graduate high school and was waiting for his name to get called. As I was waiting for my brother’s name to get called, I noticed everyone slowly stand up; I didn’t know why they were standing up. I slowly stood up and began looking around to see why everyone was standing up. Within 5 seconds, I knew why. The superintendent of the high school came to the podium and said, “I want everyone to stand up with me and show your appreciation for this next young man. With more frequent acts of terrorism all over the world, the United States must adapt/alter its policies’ and regulations in accordance to recent events.

IED Countermeasures
The threat of IED’s have brought up some interesting viewpoints regarding national protection. The federal government has issued states and local governments to build countermeasure systems against IED’s; have threatened to cut DHS funding if they do not comply. Another challenge that is discussed more often is the usage and regulation of drones. With the influx of companies manufacturing drones (for commercial use), there is an increased risk associated with privacy and security. The government has not issued any strict regulation on the use of drones as there have been no incidents of terrorism associated with these machines; Drones will potentially be a threat in the near future. With the increase in dependence on technology, the Department of Homeland Security must be able to act proactively and assess the risks associated with new technology. It’s not easy for the DHS to receive more funding, but, with the increase in terrorist events the government have been influenced to appropriate more funds towards this
