During my freshman year of high school I earned the opportunity to conduct Intermediate Science Research through a three-year college level course provided by the University of Albany, State University of New York. The program entailed that each student find an area to research that pertained to his/her interest. In order to find an area that would encapsulate my interests, I delved into about 70 scientific journal articles, each correlating to impairments of the central nervous system. Although, being an undergraduate aiming to apply to medical school entails a lot of commitment to studying, I do not simply want to earn my degree and continue on to medical school. I want to create and be part of something beyond my professional interests at NJIT. Through the myriads of opportunities offered at NJIT, I want to benefit the world, and I have already begun to do so. Currently, I am an active member of Girl Up of NJIT, NJIT Biology Society, and Honors Social Committee. All of which work to better the lives of individuals not only at NJIT, but also those facing adversity thousands of miles away from us. Off campus, I am part of JerseySTEM, which is an organization dedicated to partnering with locals schools to mentor, create and enhance STEM-oriented educational opportunities in students who lack steady, career driven environments. Aside from these organizations, I plan to be an avid leader of Beta Beta Beta Honor Society, Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, and conduct research with Mohamed Elalem, a chemical engineer, during the upcoming

Since my second semester at UT, I have devoted 15 hours a week to volunteering as a Young Life leader. Every week I help run a club meeting for dozens of high school kids, manage a planning meeting with my teammates, and lead a small group for sophomore girls. I spend hours at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School watching games and performances, and simply getting to know these young adults. Through investing this time to build relationships as a mentor and role model, I strove to show these girls that they are significant, noticed and valued. Volunteering as a Young Life leader has taught me invaluable lessons in building relationships, caring for others, and working with a team that will help me to be a more supportive and productive physician…
