Interdisciplinary Project Reflection Paper

Every year at my high school, we do an end-of-the-year project called the Interdisciplinary Project. For junior year, our entire class had to create our very own amusement park by creating business plans, models, brochures and even presentations to pitch to investors. When we were separated into groups of seven we had to elect a leader and they choose me. As leader I first analyzed my teammates’ intentions for the project, were they trying to get an A+ or was receiving a B- fine. By analyzing their intentions I was able to ascertain the work potential that members would put out towards the project. Furthermore, the review that I made, created a benchmark for the average letter grade that the team would be satisfied with, a B+. With this, I set out to execute the tasks.
To lead the team I believed the best approach was to be democratic yet strict whenever I felt was imperative. Being democratic with the team allowed more creative ideas to flow and more cooperation. Allowing the team to set forth their own ideas, and being heard made resolving conflicts almost effortless. Whenever a conflict would arise, I had the team members, who wanted a say, state their case and argument. However, there were times when a teammate seemed down and out, and I would come talk to them. I would sympathize, give them advice, and encourage them that the struggles they go through now, is what makes us who we are, and make us a better person. I would always stress the fact that they should always put their best effort in the things they do because they’ll feel like they did their best and won’t have any regrets about it.
