Nurses are active members of the healthcare team, a specific example of how I would be involved on a multidisciplinary team is getting involved in the PACU unit base council or a magnet council. Council work is very important and affords the opportunity to make a positive change on the unit and organization, as well as providing quality nursing care. The interdisciplinary team meeting at my clinical site (PMU) consist of CNL, medical doctor, psychiatrist, PAs, social work, care manager, activity therapy, nurse and clinical pharmacist. I think they are excellent at collaborating and communicating about patients’ progresses and needs on daily basis from Monday through Friday (I don’t believe there is a IPT meeting on weekend). The team talk about medications, sleep, food intake, etc. But what I notice though, the nurse has a very little input in the team, and it seems that the meeting is social worker, care manager, or doctor driven.
