Instrumental Role In Domestic Violence

Single people are looking for someone to share their happiness, sadness, and everything else regarding their life, someone who deserves them and is able to live together whether they consider it a transient relationship or a serious one. They need someone that they feel confident with and rely on when they going through difficult situations. In addition, someone who corrects their mistakes instead of attacking them physically or emotionally; for instance: criticizes and humiliates them. In order to discover what causes domestic violence, it requires a scrutiny of who are the victims and the perpetrators. In this research paper we will discuss some factors that have an instrumental role in domestic violence. According to Heise (1998), “Researchers are using an “ecological framework” to understand the interplay of personal, situational, and sociocultural factors that combine to cause gender-based violence”(p. 265). Researchers attribute violence against women to a combination of several factors. The violence can result in physical, sexual, social, psychological and economical suffering. The health consequence of violence against women include headache, nausea, other gastrointestinal symptoms, restricted mobility, unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, abortions and others. The most common psychological consequences of violence against women include depression, post traumatic disorder, anxiety disorders, adjustment problems, insomnia, eating disorders (Tsai et al, 2016). A meta-analysis of war related sex crimes revealed that anxiety, depression can affect unto three fourths of victims of sexual assault (Ba & Bhopal, 2016). This may also result in increased abuse of substance as well. In chronic form of abuse victims often identify with aggressor and become part and target of violence. The occurrence of VAW affects children and other family members significantly. It has been observed that children with history of exposure to domestic violence have increased risk of developing variety of behavioral, emotional and substance abuse disorders. Violence against women can also result in high rates of infant and children death.
