Technology and Information Systems.
Advancements in technology, especially in the healthcare industry, has skyrocketed over the past decade. The trend continues on into today’s healthcare industry by way of convenience and the ability to help and monitor patients from afar. Using the technology, literally, at our finger tips to access patient information or even the lightening enhancement technology that lets nurses see veins in a patient’s arm before drawing blood or starting an IV. The way to the future in health care is being led by the fascinating innovations that are being in patient care.
Emerging technology, new nursing skill sets, the integration of the technology, and the challenges facing the integration are things that both nurses and nurse managers have to conquer when applying new sciences and techniques (Huston, 2013). Genomics and gene testing, less invasive treatments, 3-D printing, electronic records, etc. are among the few new uses of technology that is changing the way patients are being cared for (Huston, 2013). Due to the major workforce shortage the use of robotics has become a notion that most facilities are utilizing (Huston, 2013). The growing elderly population, and an expectation in a higher quality of care has enabled the use of robotics to be more than efficient in all practices (Huston, 2013). Palms West Hospital treats patients with the help of the state-of-the-art da Vinci® Surgical Systems (Robotic Surgery, 2016). Although, it is still operated by a surgeon, the robot enhances visualization, control, precision, and can help bypass limitations of past surgical technologies used (Robotic Surgery, 2016). The human connection is not lost as the art of nursing is being actively involved in the care and needs of the patient (Huston, 2013). Interconnection of the technology and human compassion that is the essence of nursing is the challenge pending the leaders that assist in the integration of both (Huston, 2013). After defining marketing the next step would be to focus on the consumer of the product of the service (Berkowitz, 2011). Marketing in healthcare only came into production in 1975, before then advertisement only existed by word of mouth (Berkowitz, 2011). More often than not, marketing does not meet the expectations of filing hospital beds which has a lot to do with the comprehension of what marketing means to accomplish (Berkowitz, 2011). Consumers are no longer compelled by local information sources, and have more inclinations of quality and prices offered to them (Berkowitz, 2011). If understanding and the effectiveness of marketing is used accordingly, marketing tools will help in an organization’s success (Berkowitz, 2011). A hospital sales representative at Palms West Hospital has the task of evaluating, analyzing, and interpreting market demographics and forecast trends for both patients and physicians (Search Opportunities, 2016). Advancing differentiating services while in cooperation with the hospital marketing department and developing timelines and goals is also something a hospital sales representative partakes in (Search Opportunities, 2016). The responsibilities also include preparing and exhibiting monthly sales reports, detecting new business ventures, and recognizing hurdles in new business growth (Search Opportunities, 2016). With these tools, addressing issues that may arise in marketing impediments should be easily overcome yet challenging enough to think ‘outside the box’ and come up with new and innovate ways to intrigue future customers. Operational Decision Making. Basic to all organization, there are three functions including operations, marketing, and accounting (Nguyen, 2015). Within these three basic functions of an organization, decisions are being made on many levels at any given …show more content…
The mission statement avows, ““Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life” (Patients First, 2016). Eric Goldman, the CEO at Palms West Hospital, has a personal mission statement that involves making patients’ experiences safe, secure, and as comfortable as possible (CEO Message, 2016). A mission statement’s purpose is to set an idea for a firm to strive toward and upholds what a company should do (Hill, Jones, & Schilling, 2013). For the health care industry, a mission statement may mostly encompass the indication of the best possible patient care to be
