Advancements in technology, especially in the healthcare industry, has skyrocketed over the past decade. The trend continues on into today’s healthcare industry by way of convenience and the ability to help and monitor patients from afar. Using the technology, literally, at our finger tips to access patient information or even the lightening enhancement technology that lets nurses see veins in a patient’s arm before drawing blood or starting an IV. Although, it is still operated by a surgeon, the robot enhances visualization, control, precision, and can help bypass limitations of past surgical technologies used (Robotic Surgery, 2016). After an expansion of the fourth floor east tower, Palms West Hospital contained a telemetry unit containing 32 new beds which in turned, increased the area to accommodate more pediatric patients and brought the facility to 204 operational bed hospital (Slack, 2012). Not only has Palms West Hospital expanded in capacity, it has also expanded in the area of technology. Palms West Hospital is home to two da Vinci surgical robots (Slack, 2012). Being the only hospital in Palm Beach County to own the robots, Palms West Hospital was appointed a center of excellence in marginally invasive gynecology (Slack, 2012). Because Palms West Hospital sits on 94 acres of land, expanding the facility should be a difficult task if chosen to do so in the future (Slack, 2012).
