Interaction With Parents In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

The way we interact with our parents is important. How did Romeo and Juliet treat their parents? I believe that they meant well, but they weren’t exactly what you call obedient. They were definitely rebellious. You see a kind of rebellion just mold throughout the story, until it kind of just stops. Romeo and Juliet didn’t really interact with their parents, because they weren’t very fond of their families, nor were their parents of them. This is shown when Juliet’s dad said he would disown her if she didn’t marry Count Paris, and in many other references. When Romeo tells Juliet that he would change his last name just to have her, it shows he isn’t that fond with his family either. Who would give up family for a girl? As Juliet’s father speaks to her, I notice he expects complete, utter respect. If she doesn’t show respect, or even disagrees, she gets treated harshly, or even beat. I would think that the two lovers are rebellious. This is because despite the family feud, they still find a way to get together. Be it sneaking out or meeting up. Romeo’s still worry about him, but don’t actually do anything about him. For example, when Romeo is acting depressed in the beginning, his parents worry about him, but call out Benvolio to do the honors of finding their son. Benvolio was sent instead of them, so that shows a lot of caring right there! Please note the sarcasm. Juliet’s dad could care less about her. This is shown when he wants to marry her to Count Paris, without even considering whether she loves him or not. The reason he wants to marry her to Count Paris is money, and that’s just not right.
