Speaking with multiple community organizations and resources taught me of the resources to use in completing my course work for Community Health Nursing to educate low income individuals ways to improve obesity and provide them with resources for preventative education opportunities. Also speaking with health care professionals within my organization and working with them to make changes will provide my patients with a safer environment for them and their infants, while including their family members in their care.

At clinical I experienced a situation which reminded me of an ethical concern in which poor communication existed among health care professionals. One of the other student nurses in my group told me that her nurses was not listening to what she was saying. The student nurse informed me she told the nurse that the patient’s pulse ox was 82 and the nurse did not address the concern. She said the nurse was looking at her, but started talking to the doctor who just walked in the room. A couple minutes later the nurse asked the student if she took the pulse ox.…

Concepts of Interprofessional Collaboration The concepts of interprofessional collaboration were made to help us all work together through associations to solve compound health complications. Significant ideas with the relationships, that nurses use every day, include sharing information or education, working together in partnerships, authority (who is in charge?), and being able to be accountable independently or in a group. They also utilize the diversity in the patient population and professional people that we work with. Although, there are no strong associations to how the groups work, all are different, but all have a patient focused atmosphere (D 'Amour, et al., 2005) to reduce risk factors for certain populations and to deliver services…

The IOM future of nursing, have made essential proposals for the nurses to attain higher education to remain viably important in the evolving health care reform. I would use this paper to examine my fitting into the IOM Future of Nursing suggestions. IOM recommendation 4 underscores on the need to, “increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80 percent by 2020” (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2010, p. 12). By God’s abundant grace, I will be one of the nurses who will be fitting into this recommendation since, I am expecting to receive my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the Grand Canyon University (GCU) well before 2020. A question I have asked myself many times before enrolling into the BSN program is: do you really…

Often times our clients require multidisciplinary care through: physicians, nurses, physiotherapy, occupational therapist, pharmacist, mental health worker, social worker…etc. Jeffs et al. (2017) reinforces this when he describes how collaborative practice occurs when “multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds provide comprehensive services by working with patients… to deliver the highest quality of care across settings” (p.40). Thus, collaborative practice enhances our client’s care, as we are able to efficiently access a number of resources that a client may not be aware of. It is the failure of communication, coordination and collaboration within the health care team that often leads to medical errors and negative health…

In today’s ever-competitive healthcare market, patient safety, and quality of care is one of the top factors of an organizations survival. Quality improvement (QI) and safety have become a major component of our larger healthcare organization, because they value our patients, employees, and families, but why are we not following in their footsteps? A particular new idea that would be useful in a smaller unit is an action board, which allows anyone to write down a particular quality or safety problem (Steelman, 2014). In addition, the use of Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation (SBAR), which can assist with identifying the problem, examining evidence, and determining if a solution will be applied in order to improve communication handoff (Eberhardt, 2014). Both of these solutions are cost effective, and would not take very much training to implement on the units and throughout the organization.…

Not only should health promotion be implemented by the health care provider, but it is crucial that public policies acknowledge the way in which health is affected by education, housing, industry, social welfare, and environmental planning (McMurray & Clendon, 2015). Agency and community nurses must also approach health care with a holistic approach, especially when there is awareness that community members lack basic necessities, knowledge and experience (Bailie, McDonald, Stevens, Guthridge & Brewster, 2011). The nurse treats patients by not only providing general health care methods, but also encouraging lifestyle adjustments to enable recovery and prevention (Yi-erh, Sendall, Fleming & Lidstone, 2013). In order for the determinants of health to improve, certain community resources and facilities are…
