An eGlass is a laminate which can be switched from clear to opaque white to provide privacy in the flick of a switch. Privacy glass will replace curtains, which can also harbor germs and bacteria. They will greatly benefit those in acute care settings and for a controlled environment. Curtains are outdated, especially in a hospital setting, and they …show more content…
These RFID bands can alert nearby staff who are wearing the bands when a patient is out of beds, or if their bed rails are down. In emergency situations, the system can alert signals to a secondary caregiver to attend to the situation if the primary nurse or caregiver was unavailable. In areas designed for less critically ill patient 's, vital signs are often checked at four hour intervals. This leaves a big gap for potential problems, placing patients at risk for respiratory failure, hemorrhage, or falls (Frisch, 2015). With new technologies such as bed sensor pads provide automatic vital sign collection. Alerts can be sent to a mobile device, providing a faster intervention to prevent potential complications (Frisch, 2015). Another technology that has changed patient care for the better is the pump machine with the guardrail system that automatically calculates the rate and volume. The pump will block the nurse if she is inputting a dose that is too low or high. This eliminates the nurse from setting the pump herself, and the information can go wirelessly from the hospital pharmacy and overriding system, limiting any confusion or mistakes. Through wireless communication, patient quality care will be greatly enhanced. This means that staff can access patient files from anywhere to make better care plans. It gives nurses the advantage to act quickly for a patient that is rapidly …show more content…
The procedure to restore lost data, fix and decode a crashed system may be time consuming and very costly. Another downside to an intelligent hospital, is caregivers forgetting how to do certain things manually. If nurses to rely on machines and computers to calculate dosages, they may even forget to know how to manually calculate it themselves. It’s important for nurses to continuously keep themselves updated or have a backup plan just in case certain instances where the hospitals system may crash or even get hacked into. The idea of machines and computers working alongside humans, is of great advantage. In an intelligent hospital, robot manufacturers replacing doctors can speed the process of patient care, but it minimizes patient safety concerns and belittles human contact. No hospital should be able to cut corners just for the sake of new technology.
Overall, the benefits of an intelligent hospital outweigh the disadvantages it may come with. An intelligent hospital is a more efficient, creative, cost effective way to increase quality care and enhance the patient’s experience during their stay at the hospital. It allows the caregiver to control the environment in a safe manner,
