Intellectual Stimulation Leadership

The type of leader I want to be would best fall in the category of intellectual stimulation leadership. Since learning is a high value of mine, I want to be a leader that guides my subordinates effectively when it comes to professional development. Taking advantage of the educational benefits the military has to offer is one of my primary goals right now in my career. This drive for knowledge and education is how I visualize myself making a difference as a leader. In the past, I have used my love for researching schools and majors in aiding my peers in choosing which educational path to follow, especially when they were not receiving the guidance they needed from the Education Center on base. An accomplishment for me as a leader would be developing my subordinates into independent and thinking creatively when new problems arise. While working intelligence missions, new problems are constantly arising and intel is constantly changing; I want encourage my subordinates to think critically during these missions. My primary goal as a leader is mold confident analysts that can not only think reactively, but reflectively as well when the mission allows. As a green on the Four Lenses Assessment, I visualize myself as an efficient leader that will strive to provide my subordinates with a purpose for coming to work every day. Knowing the purpose behind not only our missions, but additional duties as well allows me to create goals every day while at work. When possible, I want to emphasize the purpose behind our tasks so that my subordinates are motivated and self-sufficient enough to develop their own goals. Besides creating an intellectual environment, I want to tap into my empathy and peace values by creating an environment where my subordinates feel safe enough to make and learn from mistakes. Efficiency means completing tasks in a timely fashion and prioritizing tasks in order of importance. To me, it also means using the limited time we have wisely. Efficiency impacts my life because it allows me form goals in order of importance. Using time wisely is an important value for me as a leader because as military members, we have to sacrifice a lot of our free time in order to complete the mission along with completing additional duties. It is important for me to as a leader to be efficient with time in order to give back some of that time to my subordinates.
