a. What were the main intellectual goals of the assignment? Please situate these goals in terms of the course theme and in terms of the communication skills you were to learn or practice.
i. The goal is to present a feminist argument via multiple forms. ii. First, this assignment requires me to have a strong base—a strong cultural critique essay, which is a standard written English essay. The cultural critique practiced me with my writing skills. iii. Second, this assignment allows me to share my ideas with my classmates through the brainstorming process. With the help of my classmates, I was able to improve the quality of my transcript. (Peer review) iv. Third, I got to present my argument in front of the entire class, and answered questions related to my argument afterward. My communication, presentation, as well as Q&A skills got to practice during this part of the assignment.

In addition, for each of the main idea, I also added a lot of images to help my audience understand what I am trying to convey. Because the Pechakucha is made up of PPT slides, I was able to embedded images into my presentation.
e. If you have more time for revision, what would you change and why?
i. If I have more time, I would like to have more time transcribing my essay into the transcript. Because I think the wording or audio in this presentation is very important in Pechakucha, having more thoughts in the transcribing process would help me a better Pechakucha. ii. I like the peer review part of this project very much because this process allows me to read other people’s transcripts and vice versa. I learned from some of the readings I did and received helpful advices from my classmates. However, I think because there was not enough time between the first-time transcribing and the peer review, I did not give my best quality transcript to my peers. I would like to have more time in between the transcribing and the peer review if I were to do Pechakucha

The activity where communication was central to the process was the building a bridge activity. Communication was a vital role that really helped/hindered goal attainment during the activity. A brief overview of the building a bridge activity is that as a group, we would use communication to help us build similar halves of a bridge once we divide into two groups within our original group, that are separated by a tarp. Communication helped us achieve the goal of having a similar bridge halves even though there was the obstacle of only being allowed to ask 3 questions to our other group during the building process. The first struggle within my group was that we were all talking over each other to get our opinions across which we quickly discovered…

I chose the topic of culture as typically; I feel that people do not see culture as an important sociological term when in fact it is. This may be due to the fact that people typically do not see their culture until they spot a culture in which is different from their own. Only by achieving this, an individual can see just how significant the role of culture can play in a society. In terms of gathering sources, I decided to use some sources in which I already knew a bit about such as Ayn Rand’s Atlas shrugged.…

Entering graduate school, I have personally had mixed thoughts on taking a writing course for my first semester. The increased demand for scholarly writing skills in the healthcare profession allows for improvement in many nursing positions. “Some individuals take to writing easily and with enjoyment”, but “for others the process is quite difficult” (Dexter, 2000). I am one to admit, for me, writing is not effortless. I feel that I have room for advancement, not only with APA formatting, but with writing skills, as a whole.…

Interpersonal communication is the process of sending and receiving information between two or more people. It is a person-to-person contact, it includes everyday exchange that may be formal or informal and can take place anywhere by means of words, sounds, facial expression, gestures and postures. Two significant learning points for me during this course was in module 3, using the I-language instead of you-language which gives power over our thoughts, feelings and emotions to others. To take responsibility for your own feelings, rely on I language rather than you language. I language owns thoughts and feelings and does not blame them on others (Wood 125).…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

After seven weeks of study in English 150, I learned a lot about academic writing, oral presentation, visual concepts and electronic technologies. According to ISUComm student guide: “Writing is a complex attempt to communicate with another human being remotely, sometimes across centuries. We even use writing to communicate with ourselves---to sort out our thoughts or figure out who we are”(ISUComm). Since we are communicating with others or even ourselves, we should pay attention to the rhetorical situation, which means we need to know who our audiences are, what our issues and purposes are and the context.…
