Essay On Intellectual Humility

“Intellectual humility is when the critical thinker habitually recognizes the limits to their knowledge or experience. Before I took this class I had never heard of the intellectual traits for disciplined minds so it was very eye opening. As for intellectual humility, I would honestly say that I was somewhat arrogant in my thinking. I am currently working towards a better understanding and applying intellectual humility to my life. An example being this week when my dad and I were talking about the incident at the crossroads mall. He was saying bits of information he had collected and I was saying jumbles of information I had heard and read off of different places. He then asked me background of some of the information I shared and instead of being arrogant and acting as if I was there and knew I confessed that I was not certain if my collected information was accurate.
“Intellectual empathy is when the critical thinking habitually and genuinely tries to understand how others think”. I would place myself higher up on the continuum for intellectual empathy because I find myself very often genuinely wanting to understand the way someone is thinking and their reasoning. Intellectual integrity is one I can work in internally and a skill that seems to be weaker.
