By working at an inner city middle school, I often see social workers and the obstacles they face. From what I have seen, social work is not an easy job. It is what you make it. Keeping a positive outlook on all situations and following the NASW Code of Ethics is the key to having a successful career in social work. Possessing important values such as morals, righteousness, honesty and ethics will maintain a healthy relationship not only with your clients, but with your employer. It is imperative to have a trustworthy relationship with your clients. In the story “The Seed,” we see how Ling did not compromise his integrity. Although he did not see his seed growing, he continued to nourish it. This is what we have to do even if it seems as though nothing is going well. We have to persevere just as Ling did.
